Lexical restrictions on grammatical relations in voice constructions (Northern Amis)
نویسندگان
چکیده
Abstract Amis (Austronesian, Taiwan) displays a rich, partly symmetrical voice system and split case-marking pattern which are selected restricted by (i) verb classes whose basic diathesis correlates with semantic properties such as activities versus states, (ii) Aktionsart features (i.e., atelic telic accomplishment achievements), also denote degrees of patient affectedness. Referential definiteness, agent’s animacy intentionality bear on selection. This offers alternate ways encoding arguments within bipartite pattern; it promotes peripheral, non-core to subject function via applicative constructions.

Voice and grammatical relations in Indonesian: A new perspective
This paper deals with the voice system of Indonesian, and argues that certain of the constructions traditionally analysed as passives, should be given a different treatment, parallel to arguments by Kroeger (1993) for Tagalog. We examine the role of different conceptions of subject and their place in binding. We show that, unlike other Western Austronesian languages, the logical subject – l-sub...
متن کاملParaphrasing of Italian Support Verb Constructions based on Lexical and Grammatical Resources
Support verb constructions (SVC), are verb-noun complexes which play a role in many natural language processing (NLP) tasks, such as Machine Translation (MT). They can be paraphrased with a full verb, preserving its meaning, improving at the same time the MT raw output. In this paper, we discuss the creation of linguistic resources namely a set of dictionaries and rules that can identify and pa...
متن کاملLearning Grammatical Constructions
We describe a computational model of the acquisition of early grammatical constructions that exploits two essential features of the human language learner: significant prior knowledge of concepts and individual lexical items, and sensitivity to the statistical properties of the input data. Such principles, previously applied to lexical acquisition, are shown to be useful and necessary for learn...
متن کاملConstructions , grammatical status and
6 This paper critically explores the question of what it means for a 7 construction to be grammatical. The paper engages with some of the 8 observations made in the grammaticalisation literature that elements in 9 grammatical constructions undergo morphologization, and aims to show 10 that grammatical status and morphologization need not be aligned. A 11 number of parameters along which the gra...
متن کاملDetermining the structure of lexical entries and grammatical constructions in Construction Grammar
Research in Construction Grammar assumes no strict separation between syntax and the lexicon. However, recent work by Goldberg (1995, 2006) shows that there is indeed a separation between lexical entries and grammatical constructions, including constraints regulating the fusion of grammatical constructions with verbs. This paper argues that Goldberg’s characterization of the interactions betwee...
